A simple story

What you need to know:

  • The young damsel soon forgot about my exploits of putting Casanova to shame that Valentine’s Day and life went on.

A reader wrote in and asked me why I didn’t write about Valentines day last week. Well truthfully I am the last guy to give out advice on such things, because frankly I too don’t get it. Let me give you a little anecdote. Way way back in 2011 when I was a hapless young man, a year out of campus, I met a young damsel that made me fall head over heels. She has since metamorphosed into wife, but man this woman had me doing things I had never done before like write poetry. Looking back, I think when a woman has you writing poetry you are very close to becoming a Psychopath.

Anyhow the first Valentine’s Day I decided to put Casanova to shame. I bought this larger than life bouquet of flowers that cost me about 150K. Now that floral arrangement couldn’t have been too hard for me to reverse engineer I reasoned after having been separated from my money. I could have jumped over a few people’s fences in Kololo and picked up some fresh Roses for the job. For some reason I am convinced chaps in Kololo grow roses in their compounds.

Anyway I wasn’t done yet, I took this young daughter of Eve to this fancy restaurant that had some sort of Valentine’s Day couple arrangement and when the evening of wining and dining was done, I had spent some considerable money.
I went home that evening to balance my books and discovered that I had blown 425K plus for those darn roses that I’m still sure I could have reverse engineered. Now I was a young guy earning average. This deficit was going to cause me some serious cash flow problems that month. Let us just say lacking transport to work is a real problem brothers and sisters.

The young damsel soon forgot about my exploits of putting Casanova to shame that Valentine’s Day and life went on. Nowadays, I just live my life on Valentine’s Day like a normal human being. I go home, have my dinner, watch some Tech videos on Youtube and have a wrestling match with my almost three year old son since he is at the age where he loves that sort of thing. On such days, the damsel looks forward to a quiet night with the children because some women are not cut out for that kind of attention. I will take her for a dinner a week from now and remind her about that experiment I had going. You know the one where I tried to outdo Casanova in 2011.
