What you need to know:

Glamour battles. The Abryanz awards recognises and rewards the best in the game of fashion and style. To attend this award show, therefore, you must be very confident about your own style, ready to be seen and critiqued, writes Hassan Sentongo.

After months of anticipation, the team at Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards finally released this year’s list of nominees at a swanky party held at Skyz Hotel Naguru. Some of fashion’s it-girls were in attendance to celebrate the release, and as always, they stepped out in style.
For an event that kicked off the road to one of the biggest fashion events of the year, this was good. In fact, we cannot wait for the glamour at the awards gala to be held in December.
For now, let’s delve right into some of the best looks of the evening.

Proudly Ugandan
Sham Tyra in orange high-waisted pants and a plaid top that crisscrossed her shoulders and went all the way down to cinch her waist. Dramatic and modern, perfect for a cocktail party. Her wavy hair gave the look some sort of old Hollywood glamour.

Electric pink glamour
Vinka wore a matching two piece; a cropped top and culottes with an asymmetric overlay.
She added a tied to the top head-wrap. The western meets African feel is what makes it a perfect ensemble. And, it suits her personal style.

Old fabric new look
Finally an exciting way to wear the iconic kikoyi fabric. Local Designer Fatumah Asha stepped out in a kikoyi mini-dress that has her playful creativity all over it. It takes guts to take on such an iconic fabric and turn it into something totally different that still looks wearable.

Bringing the drama
Bettinah Tianah wore a dramatic Ankara print dress which featured bell-sleeves, a cut out on the bodice and pleats at the bottom. She wore the striking mini dress with black strappy sandals and no accessories.
