Electricity saving tips

Switch to energy saving bulbs.

What you need to know:

“Turn the water heater off as soon as the water becomes hot. The hot water should be enough for everyone, especially if it is not left running when you are not using it, for example when you are soaping yourself.”

These tips will help you reduce the amount of power you use and spend less on electricity.

Get everybody on board
If you do not live alone, in order to make effective changes it is best to get everybody you live with, including your workers, on board.
Offering incentives, for significant savings after a period of time will help motivate compliance.
This does not have to burn a hole in your pocket; it could be a special home cooked meal, or rewarding members of your household in turns with airtime for their phones, for example.

Use natural light for as long as possible
Turn on the lights only when it becomes too dark to see. This means your curtains should be fully pulled back, so that as much sunlight as possible comes into the rooms. The same applies to security lights. Turn them on only when it becomes dark and switch them off at day break.

Switch to energy saving bulbs
Ordinary bulbs consume more power than energy saving blubs and switching your bulbs to energy savers will save you a lot in the long run. They also last longer.

Turn off the lights
Whenever you leave a room, turn off the lights. The same applies to other areas of the house that nobody is using, such as the kitchen, bathrooms and corridors.

Unplug electric devices when not in use
Anything plugged into a power source that is switched on consumes power even if the appliance is switched off. So switch off at the wall when appliances not in use.

Cover sauce pans
If what you are cooking will not spill over, covering your pans when cooking will cook the food faster and save on electricity.
Keeping your fridge and freezer full means they do not have to work as hard and therefore they use less energy. Empty space in your fridge or freezer wastes not only space but energy too.
