‘Go out, work, excel and shine’

What you need to know:

Focused. Florence Nambooze Bbaale is a land surveyor by profession, the chairperson of Women’s League Institution of Surveyors of Uganda, a lecturer at Ndejje University and chief survey for external business at Buganda Land Board, a wife and a mother of three. She told Shabibah Nakirijja how she spends her week.

Monday
I set my alarm at 5:45am. I start my mornings with a prayer and I prepare to go for work. Usually, I leave home at 6:45am and within 45 minutes, I arrive at office. After going through the dailies, reading and responding to mails, I review the previous week’s assignments that were never accomplished.
My days are largely determined by the number of clients I have to meet. I do not have a fixed work routine. On Monday, I hardly go to the field.
I leave office at 5pm to prepare for a show on Radio CBS that airs from 7pm to 8pm to talk about matters related to land. I reach home at around 9pm.

Tuesday
I have the same morning programme like the one of Mondays, but I go home at 5pm on Tuesday to have quality time with my children. I use this time to prepare a quick meal for them before they go to bed. At night, I spend time reading and researching in preparation for two morning lectures on Wednesday at Ndejje University.

Wednesday
Early in the morning, I drive to Bombo to lecture university students. Lectures commence at 9am and end at 1pm. I head back to town to attend to office assignments and review clients’ queries. I later present a land matters show on Kingdom TV at 6pm that features every Wednesday.

Thursday
I report to office first and later go for a television show at 9:32am at BBS TV. I see clients and do site visits later in the day. Sometimes I have site visits out of Kampala and I end up returning home late. On days when I am not too busy, I go for swimming as a way to unwind. In the afternoon, I go for fitness exercises organised by our office.

Saturday
I wake up late. I enjoy watching ‘90 days’ fiancé’ show on Saturdays while in bed. I spend my weekends with my children, even if I have to go for site visits. We also visits our farm to see how the crops and animals are doing.

Sunday
I wake up early in the morning to prepare a special meal for my family, before I go for the morning church service at Rubaga Cathedral. After church service, I head home to prepare lunch. In the afternoon, I make time to supervise family investments, visit friends or family or sometimes attend functions. We also meet every last week of the month as women surveyors to discuss ways of improving performance and look out for new trends in land matters. If I had to advise women, I would tell them to do what they want to do now. Opportunities strike once. Go out, work and do your best. Look out for opportunities. Do not settle for less. Optimise your time.
