Stretch marks are caused by a sudden loss or gain of weight. They are a common problem in women, especially mothers due to pregnancy and teenagers with a growing body. They normally attack the arms, thighs, lower abdomen and legs. According to Robert Ddamulira, a fitness instructor, stretch marks can be reduced with a variety of exercises depending on where they are.

Around the arms
Boxing
Ddamulira says while punching, you stretch and straighten the muscles hence putting the skin back in shape. Boxing helps you reduce weight and also keeps your body fit.

Lift weights
Eric Ligwale, a medical practitioner, says you can use dumbbells or barbells to help you reduce weight and well as put the skin back in shape and in the process remove stretch marks.

Around the buttocks
Squats
Squats include bending or sitting with your knees bent and heels touching your buttocks or the back of one’s thighs. Ddamulira notes that these helps increase upper and lower body mobility because they are whole body workouts. Five to ten squats are enough and should be done daily to have the desired effect.

Frog jumps
“Jumps involve squatting with hands spread to the front and taking repeated jumps. You can jump as high as you can go or leave it at a low level. This will help you cut the weight and in the process, stretch marks,” Ddamulira says adding that you can also exercise by doing the jumps on the stairs.

On the thighs
Lunges
A lunge is defined as any position of the human body where a person positions one leg forward with his knee bent and foot flat on the ground while the other leg is positioned firmly behind. This workout will make your thighs firm and restore the torn tissues hence taking the skin to its original position. With firm skin, you are unlikely to get stretch marks.

On the stomach
Sit ups
Shakilah Katuutu notes that when she gave birth, her doctor told her to do sit-ups more and it was effective. Sit-ups involve laying on your back on a flat surface, leave the legs glued on the floor and lifting your upper body to and from in a repeated manner. Ddamulira says sit-ups helps you cut the excess fat in your stomach, increase muscle flexibility as well as reduce back pain.

Skipping
Ligwale says skipping is a very effective exercise since it puts the whole body in motion hence creating a general body effect. Skipping will help you burn six to 10 calories a day. It strengthens lower and upper body and increases blood circulation. The comfortability with skipping is that you can do it from your room and still achieve your desired goal.
Use a stomach roller
This is for chest workouts. It heals and strengthens muscles on your lower back. Stomach rollers are most effective for cutting stomach fat. A stomach roller is a round ball with handles on either side and is used by laying down straight, holding the two handles and rolling in front and back.
Ddamulira notes that it is a great tool to use to reduce stomach fat and in turn remove stretch marks.
