Dr Paul Kasenene, a nutritionist Wellcare Health Clinic, gives tips on foods you can eat when you crave sugar.

Fruits such as mangoes, grapes, berries, bananas are naturally sweet and come with various health benefits. They are high in fibre and low in sugar.
Regularly eating them may also help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Eggs are a high-protein food that reduces your appetite and keeps sugar cravings in check. They also lower levels of insulin and ghrelin. a hormone that stops hunger and prevents sugar cravings.

Eating whole grains is linked to a longer, healthier life. This is because the grains contain manganese, selenium vitamins B, magnesium, phosphorus and iron. The fibre content in them will help you feel full and reduce your sugar craving.

Adding vegetables to your meals can prevent you from getting sugar cravings. Since vegetables are high in fibre and low in calories, they are likely to improve your health and lower the risk of diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

Legumes such as beans, peas are great plant-based sources of fibre and protein. These will often make you feel satisfied to reduce hunger-driven sugar cravings.
