Are you wondering how to decorate your home this Easter season? Well you can use an Easter tree to have your home stunning, elegant and unique.

Making Easter Tree (Easter Egg Tree) is a rare trend in Uganda but can be one of the prettiest decoration one can have in his/her house this Easter season. Easter Tree is different from a Christmas tree in various ways though they serve the purpose (beauty). Here is how to incorporate an Easter tree in your house.

According to Mary Namukose, an interior designer, Easter Trees originated from Germany. People used their natural trees in the compounds which they decorated with plastic eggs, known as Easter eggs, which come in different colours.

A German tradition has it that eggs on the plant is an ancient symbol of life all over the world and this is partly the reason most trees must have Easter eggs. The use of Easter trees was adapted by people from different parts of the world as time went on.
Namukose says if incorporated very well, an Easter Tree will bring the best feel in your compound and living room because it is colourful. The Easter Eggs make it colourful.

Easter trees are originally supposed to be natural trees. However, artificial ones started coming in the picture as time went on. These are usually made without leaves as the Easter Eggs are meant to decorate them. However, Dorothy Nabatanzi, an interior designer, notes that a tree with leaves (Christmas tree like) can also be used but instead of using balloons for decoration, Easter Eggs are used.

Natural Easter tree
Nabatanzi notes that this is usually a tree in the compound that the family decorates to celebrate the Easter holiday with a warm feel and something unique.
“They are usually covered with multiple coloured Easter Eggs and a few balloons for people who would want to have them. Decorative bulbs usually with a single colour are incorporated to enhance the look especially at night,” she adds.

Alternatively, a branch is picked and placed in a corner in the house. Easter Eggs or balloons and decorative lights can also be used to decorate it.
Sharon Amoding, a landscaper, notes that these are sometimes placed in decorative pots to add beauty to the branch and eggs. She says they can as well be placed on either sides of the verandah to complement the house.

Artificial Easter tree
If you have no tree in your compound or do not want to have dirt from leaves in your house, you can go for the artificial one. These can be bought in shops that sell decorating items.
Nabatanzi notes that in Kampala, you can have them in Kikubo down town or supermarkets.
If you do not find a tree without leaves, you can go with the ones commonly known as Christmas trees. The artificial ones are usually indoor decorations though you also have them outside if you want.

“They can be decorated with balloons, Easter Eggs and decorative bulbs as well. However, to make them different from Christmas trees, you may have to avoid balloons though it’s not a must,” she says.
Namukose adds that Easter trees are usually in a variety of colours. Less people go green as its Christmas like, most go for all white trees which are also called Easter White trees. These come out well with the Easter Eggs since they are usually in a variety of colours.

Where to place it
Though it is okay to have them in the house corners, you can beat the odd by placing it on the tables in the house. This is referred to as a center piece, the Easter eggs Incorporated here should match the other features in the house to avoid the place looking messy.
