How can I stop worrying and pass my interview?

What you need to know:

You must dress appropriately for the interview, arrive 30 minutes early, which always impresses the panellists even before you have walked into the room.

What tips could I have before I go for an interview? Sometimes interviews really get me anxious. I have not stopped thinking about the interview since I received a call from my prospective employer. I am very anxious. Hajara

Dear Hajara,
Interviews are nerve-wracking and anxiety is normal. In the first instance, take a moment and acknowledge that you have passed the first hurdle of the selection process, getting shortlisted. Preparation is the key to a successful interview. The interviewing stage is not only the oral interview, but a combination of assessments. Regardless of the type of interview, make sure you have done your research. Not only the role you are applying for, but the organisation. Review the organisation’s website. Understand what they do, their values, goals and ethos; and speak with enthusiasm about your desire to join them.

Your success hinges on your ability to demonstrate how you have the qualities and skills required for the role. Reflect on your experiences and how these experiences relate to the role. Be prepared to talk about your strengths and your developmental areas. Include stories where you may not have been successful, but where you have learned from your mistakes and show that you bring quality experience into the role.

You must dress appropriately for the interview, arrive 30 minutes early, which always impresses the panellists even before you have walked into the room.
Be prepared to ask the panellists relevant questions. Do not give long winded responses, keep them short and to the point. Speak slowly and remember to breathe. You only get one chance to make a lasting impression.
