My boss has failed to understand my period pain ?

Alice Nankya L. Nsibuka

Dear Gina,
Continuing with daily work tasks during your periods can sometimes be difficult. Menstruation affects everyone differently but the truth is, it happens to most women. Some experience extreme cramps at the onset of a period, which are intense enough to interfere with daily work.
Managing the menstrual cycle symptoms might come in handy for instance you should at all times have the pain relief that works for you, stay hydrated and avoid too much caffeine.

You could consider seeing a gynecologist who might take you through different options to relieve your symptoms. You could also discuss flexible work options with your supervisor and if possible, provide a doctor’s recommendation.
Menstrual leave exists in several countries, but has been widely criticised as counterproductive often reinforcing negative stereotypes of female workers.
As such, few take advantage of it citing perceptions of gender weakness and others wonder whether this discourages employers from hiring women.
