Close call between leaders Vipers, holders KCCA

Kampala- KCCA and Vipers have accrued four successive wins in the last four Uganda Premier League matches and that is why their epic clash today at StarTimes Stadium couldn’t have come at a fitting time.

That blazing formbook, absence of Cranes players on both sides, last season’s double draws and battling for pride will inevitably add spice to the bourgeoning four-way league contest.

A win for either side will go a long way in making a statement of commitment towards the title match this season which makes it a must watch affair. The battle lines were first drawn in the Fufa Super 8 tourney – the dress rehearsal for the league season - with Vipers overpowering KCCA to draw first blood.

“This is a game that pits the best two teams in the league but we are not in panic mode. We will handle it like any other game we have played. We shall go there with full focus and commitment to make sure we get the result we want,” Vipers coach Edward Golola told the club website. He may still miss the services of Halid Lwaliwa, Fahad Bayo, Karim Watambala, Fabien Mutombora and Bobosi Byaruhanga but like his KCCA counterpart Mike Mutebi, he prides in the privileged squad depth at his disposal.

The hosts will also miss midfielders Allan Okello, Nicholas Kasozi and Charles Lukwago but Mutebi believes the contest could be decided by the side that is more proficient in in the final third.

“We continue to improve our scoring which is interesting. We make many chances which we never utilize fully,” he said. He is set to continue with Mike Mutyaba, Sadat Anaku and, Erisa Ssekisambu in attack will Golola will vest his faith in Tito Okello, Dan Sserunkama and Allan Kayiwa.
