KCCA look to skip Red Eagles hurdle

KAMPALA- KCCA manager Mike Mutebi did not want to overly concern himself with happenings in yesterday’s game between Vipers and URA at St Mary’s Kitende, instead preferring to focus on matters at hand.
Vipers went into the said game looking to close the gap between the Venoms and KCCA to three ahead of the final four StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) matches.

But Mutebi, whose KCCA have their own chance of closing in on record winners SC Villa’s 16 league titles by winning their 13th, insists that the most important thing is for them to take care of their own business, and that business is the visit of Express today.
“We know that Vipers still believe they can win the title by winning all their matches,” said Mutebi.
Table leaders KCCA have 56 points, six ahead of Vipers, while third-placed URA are further behind on 43.
“URA too want to finish high on the table but we won’t focus on their encounter that much,” added Mutebi, “Our fate lies in winning against Express (today) and the other remaining matches.”

Express won the first round encounter 3-2 at Wankulukuku, with Eric Kambale scoring the winner, and now with coach Ssimwogerere, the Red Eagles have added a defensive edge to their game.

“We know they are good defensively but we won’t change our attacking style of play,” insisted Mutebi. “We are like Barcelona; we are going to take the game to them and achieve our target of winning the four remaining matches and win the league title.”

Today’s match bring together two of the country’s most exciting talents in KCCA’s Allan Okello and Express’ Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye.
“I will first speak on Okello,” weighed in Mutebi, “He has what it takes to change the tide of this tie.

“Okello and Zaga hold the future of Ugandan football and it will be thrilling for the fans to see them in action. If only all teams had players to look out for every match.”

Michael Birungi, among Express goals in the first round, is another weapon Ssimwogerere will be relying on.
Against KCCA, the Red Eagles will have to deal with the uncertainty of deciding who to watch most as the Lugogo side is littered with quality across the pitch. “We continue working hard and all I ask of fans is to be calm and support us to finish the season well,” said Ssimwogerere.

Elsewhere, three other games are lined up on the day but with Nyamityobora at home to Maroons is the one that carries more weight as the former cannot afford further slip-ups.
