Kampala- Eight sides will push for progress at four different venues in today’s Uganda Cup quarterfinal ties but just four can make the next stage. In one of the more interesting fixtures, Plascon Mongers host Toyota Buffaloes in Entebbe.

Ties between the two sides have produced lively games in the past. Both camps believe they have a chance to make the semifinals. For Mongers, it’s a wave of confidence backed by a desired degree of togetherness. “They have no chance against us, we are confident of winning the game,” said Mongers hooker Joseph Tamele before teammate, Joseph Bulago, highlighted the feeling in the camp.” Everyone feels part of the team and you can see the unity. It has always been the case but it got better,” he said.

Buffaloes signed up to 16 players in the window. They also lost key players in Steven Alul to Pirates and Innocent Gwokto to Hima Heathens. It’s a cycle they have become accustomed to and coach Edgar Lemeriga is always ready for this time of the year. “We cannot control some of these things but deal with what we have. The new players have the opportunity to step up at this stage,” he said.

At legends champions Betway Kobs entertain Jinja Hippos who ditched out Rams last week with a 6-3 score. A Hippos win would be an upset and Hippos coach-player Saidi Atibu respects Kobs but also willing to push them. “They are a strong side but we shall play our game and see how it works out,” he said.

2017 champions Stanbic Pirates welcome Rhinos in a campaign coach Bobby Musinguzi hopes to go a step further than last year. Record 12 time champions Heathens face Warriors at Kyaondo. The Kyadondo faithful will also see new signings Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Scott Oluoch, Jamil Nyango , Boaz Musasizi, Oyet Joseph and Gwokto make home debuts.
