What you need to know:

Golf. 2018 runners-up Kaheru and Bagabo will want to do the magic again and go all the way this time.

There are a number of mental constructs that Peace Kabasweka and Sheila Kesiime depleted when the pairing won the second edition of the Entebbe Singleton Challenge last year.

So when the first round of the third edition tees-off at the par-71 lakeside course in Entebbe this morning, seven other all-female pairings will be itching to make a podium finish.

The coveted prize for this exciting match-play competition come the grand finale on July 13 is a fully-paid trip to the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic tournament courtesy of RwandAir in January next year.

For beating Paul Kaheru and Uganda Golf Club captain Joseph Bagabo 2-up on the par-4 Hole No.18 on July 14, 2018 to fly to luxurious Jumeirah Golf Courses in UAE, the two ladies Kabasweka and Kesiime call it ‘our best golf moment ever’.

The defending champions needed not to take part in the qualifier on January 12 and now begin their title defence against the pairing of Edwin Tabaro and Ivan Wesonga in a 200-man field. “All I can say is that we are ready to play the course since we don’t know much about their (opponents) game,” Kabasweka told SCORE earlier this week.

Better handicap
Kabasweka’s handicap has since dropped to six and Kesiime’s is at a decent 13. “Yes, we have done good practice and we did not have challenges on the course recently.”

Beyond the preparation, something more helps the pairing click. “Friendship,” Kabasweka states, “We are not golfers but friends since 2013 when we paired to play for WEGA (Western Region Golf Association).”

Now Tabaro and Wesonga must break down a bond as old as six years.

In another context at this round of 64, the famous 19th hole faces can only enjoy the evening themed ‘Oldies Night’ if they skip tricky hurdles on course. Entebbe Club leaders Oscar Semawere and Marvin Kagoro can toast best if they survive the Bridget Nakamoga and Lucia Alinda barricade or else, they will be subject to banter during the merrymaking.

Kiryowa ‘K.K’ Kiwanuka won the Singleton Award last year and implying he has a bigger reputation to protect. His combo with Elly Mukasa must not disappoint when they face Grace Njeri and Ruth Mugisha.

Then Silver Rugambwa’s return to golf is being felt much as he picks a prize at every tournament lately.
He has paired with humble national team player Ashraf Bagalana and they will hope to tick the right boxes.
