KAMPALA- Soroti Cricket Academy manager Felix Musana is plotting a takeover in women’s club cricket in Uganda.
His academy’s flagship team Olila High School enjoyed a purple patch last season but were beaten by Aziz Damani to the 40-Over and T20 titles. They finally bowed out of 2018 with the AfriPower National Women Sixes Challenge.

Musana had added another team to Olila early last year: Soroti Challengers, a club in partnership with men’s club Challengers Cricket Club owned by Vaheed Mohammed.

“Its new club formed in 2018 to help provide exposure to the talented girls in Soroti that do not play for Olila,” said Musana.
“Soroti Challengers played the inaugural Division II season which they won.” A week ago, Soroti began life in the UCA National Women’s Twenty20 League with an 18 and 85-run win over Pioneer at Entebbe Oval.

On the other hand, 2017 champions Olila defeated Jinja SSS by 60 and 76 runs respectively at Kyambogo.

Major reliance
Now Soroti Challengers aim to keep the momentum when Soroti Challengers visits Jinja SSS with major reliance on wicket-keeper batter Kevin Awino, Patricia Munguryek, skipper Janet Mbabazi and Naomi Kayondo, who recently returned from Europe.
Olila, too, have Damalie Busingye, Rachael Ntono and captain Gloria Obukor in their ranks when they meet Damani at Entebbe.
Damani’s star Immaculate Nakisuyi is in good shape mentally having been crowned as 2018’s Best Female Player at the UCA Awards Night last week.
The challenge is, however, big for Musana to balance attention for both teams.
“It’s not easy but just passion for the game and having strict team rules and guidelines,” he added.
