Today’s Dolphins Fast and Furious Gala feels like a homecoming.
After a promising international season for some of the swimmers, it is time to take stock at home under less pressure and in a short course competition.
The majority that stayed at home have a chance to get tested and get back into groove after the July-September break.
Kirabo Namutebi was the biggest wow factor managing a new national record (26.98) in the 50m freestyle at the Fina Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary last month.
Her entry time for the 50m freestyle today is the 26.79 she managed at the National Championships in May.
But her participation today feels like a way of giving clout to the gala as she has to compete at the Cana Juniors in Tunisia next week.
Among the swimmers headed to Tunis, only Silverfin’s Mercedes Mwebeiha, Kenya-based Ahura Ambala and Dolphins duo Mikkah Kiggundu and Daryl Kyabayinze were not on the Fast and Furious psyche sheet that we had by press time.
Nanette Nsereko, Tendo Kaumi, Paulsen Settumba, Hayyan Kisitu and Ben Kaganda all seem to relish the practice time at the Harris International-sponsored gala.
Kaganda should benefit more from going head-to-head with his peer Tendo Mukalazi who managed a couple of national records at the Fina World Championships in Gwangju – South Korea.
Their teammates Adnan Kabuye and Darren Ssamula were not among the entries by press-time but the former managed a 50m backstroke national record in Budapest.
