Kadaga upbeat about Commonwealth meet

Kampala- Uganda is ready to host the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Kampala, the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, announced, urging Ugandans to seize the opportunity to showcase legendary hospitality and make money.
From tour operators to hoteliers and craft makers, Ms Kadaga said ordinary citizens should position to earn from their talent, including through sale of souvenirs since many of the delegates will fly in with their families.
“Some of the guests plan trips to the national parks, engage in night life, enjoy local cuisine,” she said while briefing editors last Friday at Hotel Africana in Kampala about the forthcoming conference to run from September 22-29.
“Ugandans will get some money,” Ms Kadaga said, by providing accommodation, selling crafts in improvised stalls within hotels hosting conference events or delegates and car hires.
She also said they will use the meeting to “engage, deliberate and network on parliamentary governance.”
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, which Uganda is hosting for the second time since 1967, is one of the largest annual gatherings of Commonwealth parliamentarians, information on the conference website shows.
The theme for this year’s summit is: Adaption, engagement, and evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth of Nations is a voluntarily political association of 53 states.
