Exploit investment opportunities in Uganda, Oulanyah tells Romania

Kampala- The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Jacob Oulanyah, has implored the government of Romania to tap into investment opportunities in Uganda as a measure of cementing bilateral relations.
Mr Oulanyah was yesterday addressing a delegation from Romania, led by Ms Daniela Gitman, the Special Representative for UN Affairs, and Ms Julia Pataki, Romania’s Ambassador in the East African Region, who had called on the speaker for a follow-up meeting on plans to develop bilateral relations with Uganda.
Mr Oulanyah said there are a number of opportunities ranging from agriculture to tourism.
“I don’t know of a country that produces any better pineapples than this country, some people think we have added sugar or sweeteners but it is straight from the tree,” he said.
“Please try the Ugandan pineapple, you might be forced to remove some of you luggage and carry them,” Mr Oulanyah added as he emphasised Uganda’s fruits as the best in the world.
In the field of tourism, he said Uganda beats many countries in the world, and the country stands as a tourist destination across the globe.
“This country is an amazing country and if you get to know what is in Uganda, you will love it more,” Mr Oulanyah said.
The delegation, which was composed of professors and university rectors from Romania, expressed the need for bilateral arrangements with Uganda, as well as the African multilateral structure.
On April 27, Romania will be celebrating 50 years of her diplomatic engagement with Uganda, and Ms Gitman says there is need to underline the friendship as a special occasion.
She said Romania has read the Uganda Vision 2040 and they are willing to offer their expertise towards the achievement of the vision.
Ms Gitman listed areas of the economy that need strategic importance such as Education, Agriculture, Information and Communications Technology, among others.
“We would also like to enhance the mobility between our students and discuss a way on how our professors can exchange views and benefit from our research and facilities,” said Mr Gitman.
She said Romania would offer scholarships in Science, Medicine and Engineering to young students of Uganda. Mr Gitman urged the deputy speaker to encourage Ugandan experts from agriculture research institutions to visit Romania for bench marking.
She requested for Uganda’s support since Romania is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council mandate from 2020-2021.
Mr Oulanyah welcomed the courtesy visit saying it was timely.
