MBARARA- Family members of the late Dr Catherine Agaba have dismissed reports that  Ronald Obangakene, a private security guard confessed to murdering their relative.

Dr Agaba, was attached to International Hospital Kampala (IHK).

The suspect reportedly told police that he killed her and dropped the body in a septic tank at her residence in Muyenga, a Kampala suburb.

Mr Emmanuel Mbarebakyi, an uncle of the deceased told mourners on Wednesday at their ancestral home in Ntura Parish, Kashari, Mbarara District that police should keep the hunt for the “real suspects”.

‘’I have read in the newspapers that the arrested suspect killed Dr Catherine Agaba because she was reporting him to his boss. He is a liar because Catherine was not talkative and she would only talk about what concerned her,’’ Mr Mbarebakyi said at the burial ceremony.

Mr Mbarebakyi asked President Yoweri Museveni and his government to find the true killers.

‘’Police and President Museveni should help us get real suspects who stopped us from enjoying the fruits of educating a girl child,” Mr Mbarebakyi said. “The culprits who stopped us from seeing the introduction of our daughter because she had given us all that a parent wants from his daughter. She had promised us to bring a man to this family,’’ Mr Mbarebakyi said.

Mr Fred Rutagumba, the father of Dr Agaba blamed the police for slowing the process of searching for the body until the army got involved.

‘’Police had delayed the process of searching for my daughter’s body until her brother Maj. Moses Atwine involved the army and we recovered the body very fast,’’ Mr Rutagumba said.

Agaba’s father explained how the criminals had robbed him of a child he raised after her mother passed on early in life.

“Dr Catherine Agaba’s mother died when she was five years old and I looked after the four children she left behind to make sure that they all get better but the criminals did not want me to enjoy the fruits of educating children. Now everything is in that casket,’’ he said.

The priest of Rubindi Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Robert Ayebazibwe said somebody who confesses to committing murder is no longer a suspect but a criminal.

The late Agaba was described as a jolly, intelligent, hardworking and lovely woman who liked education.

She started her education at St. Helens Primary School Mbarara. She went to Maryhill High School for O - Level. She joined Gayaza High School from 2009 to 2010. She joined Mbarara University of Science and Technology in 2011 and graduated in 2016.

She joined St. Francis Hospital Nsambya for internship between 2016 and 2017 before joining IHK in Kampala in 2018.
