11 suspects arrested over dead police officer

KAMPALA- Police have arrested 11 people who are suspected of killing a police officer in Hoima District last week.

Police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, said eleven suspects were arrested during an operation in which 78 people suspected to have been terrorising residents of Kyabasigazi village in Hoima District were rounded up in a joint security operation.

Mr Enanga said a joint operation followed a public cry over dozens of men armed with rudimentary weapons invaded the village, evicting people and threatening to kill them if they didn’t heed their orders.

“We arrested a number of suspects and out of these, 11 are connected to the killing of our police officer. We picked two pairs of shoes and we traced the owners. They [suspects] accepted that the shoes belonged to them. We are going to charge them with murder,” Mr Enanga said.

Meanwhile, a body of a six-year old boy has been found in Kireka Market, in Wakiso District.

According to Mr Enanga, Jonathan Musemereza’s body was found by market vendors on Sunday night.

The killers had cut his throat.

According to police, Musemereza’s eight-year old brother told his mother that on their way to fetch water at about 8pm on Sunday, a stranger persuaded his brother to follow him after promising to give him sweets.

Mr  Enanga said Musemereza’s eght-year-old brother returned alone and informed his mother, Ms Esther Nambafu, that a stranger had gone with his young brother to buy him sweets.

“Residents mounted a search for the boy and his body was found at around 3 am. It is unfortunate that someone can kill an innocent juvenile,” Mr Enanga said.
