Hoima- Police and UPDF have arrested 14 illegal immigrants of Congolese origin on Lake Albert.
A security source said the suspects were arrested without proper identification documents during an operation at Tonya, Kyehoro and Kaiso landing sites.

Mr Julius Hakiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson, said the operation was meant to restore sanity on the lake.
Ugandan fishermen have been accusing Congolese militias of attacking, abducting and killing them at the lake.
The joint security team also impounded four boats.

Police said one of the impounded boats had immature fish.
The suspects are detained at Hoima Central Police Station and will be charged as soon as investigations are complete.
While in Hoima District in November last year, President Museveni warned Congolese against attacking Ugandans and promised to increase army deployments on Lake Albert and other lakes that are on Ugandan borders.

This came after four Ugandan fishermen were killed on Lake Albert by an armed group suspected to be from the DR Congo.
In May 2016, a suspected Congolese armed group attacked Ugandan police officers, who were patrolling Lake Albert and killed three of them.

These included police constables Moses Ochen and Bernard Isingoma, Sgt Mazafaru Waiswa and the police’s marine coxswain, Corporal Biral Obara, who was critically injured and taken captive.

INCIDENTS
In May 2013, three Ugandan fisheries enforcement officials and two policemen were abducted by a group of armed Congolese operatives on Lake Albert.
On November 10, 2012, there was a heavy exchange of gunfire in the Lake Albert waters between a Ugandan security team and an armed group believed to be from DR Congo.
