2 killed in dramatic robbery in Kiboga

Kampala. Two of four suspected robbers died in a movie-like scene in Kiboga District, with one being lynched and another shot dead after tripping and fracturing a leg.
Witnesses and police say a gang riding on two motorcycles trailed and intercepted Mr Asuman Mayanja, a businessman, between Kiboga Town and Bukomero Trading Centre at about 9am on Wednesday.
They forced his car open and grabbed a bag containing Shs30m. One of the armed robbers shot their victim during an ensuing scuffle, but he did not die.
“Another thug opened the door of the car and grabbed the bag that contained money. They ran to waiting motorcycles to flee the scene,” Mr Norbert Ochom, the police spokesperson for Wamala Region, said.
One of the gang members then fired twice in the air, forcing residents and onlookers to scamper for safety.

Plan goes bad
The thugs’ luck, however, ran out when one of then slipped and broke his leg. A colleague shot him dead.
The residents quickly regrouped and pursued the fleeing assailants, killing one.
“Seeing no hope of fleeing on the motorcycles, they abandoned them (motorcycles) and ran into the bush with the money. Although we recovered the motorcycles, two suspects are still on the run and the hunt is still on,” Mr Ochom said. The police did not say if they recovered any cash.
By yesterday, the detectives investigating the case had contacted Uganda Revenue Authority to establish owners of the abandoned motorcycles.
This is the second armed robbery case in the region in less than a month.
Three weeks ago, three armed men stole a vehicle that was transporting maize and charcoal.
Police say they suspect members of the same group masterminded the two attacks.
