Mbale. More than 33 districts in West Nile and eastern region have received motorcycles under strengthening education systems for improved learning (SESIL) programme.

The motorcycles are meant to build capacity for district local governments to carry out effective monitoring and supervision of school activities.

Among the districts that received motorcycles include Bukwo, Bududa, Sironko, Kween, and Kapchorwa.
In West Nile, the districts that received include Adjumani, Maracha, Moyo, Arua, Yumbe among others.

Mr Patrick Balyogera, the commissioner of Basic Education Standards in the Ministry of Education and Sports, said the motorcycles will help inspectors of schools to conduct regular inspection.

It’s aims at improving the standards of learning in lower primary level.
The technical director of SESIL, Mr Roger Cunningham, said the main objective of SESIL is to support and intensify district-based stakeholders to monitor school performance.

“The aims of SESIL include improving pupil attendance, increasing time spent by teachers in school, ensuring that children are safe in and around the school, among others,” he said.
Mr Eliya Magumba, the Sironko Chief Administrative Officer, said the motorcycles will help many school inspectors carry out routine inspections.

“The inspectorate of education at district level has been facing challenges in terms of transport process but now that has been handled and hopefully inspection is given a boost,” he said.
