Four passengers died on spot yesterday after a bus they were travelling in to Koboko-Arua overturned on the Kampala-Gulu Highway, the police said yesterday. The 10.30pm accident that left 28 other people injured was a result of a front tyre burst that caused the bus to veer off the road, according to a witness.

The officer in charge of Criminal Investigations Directorate in Nakasongola District, Mr Wilber Wanyama said the accident at Sasira Village in Wabigalo Sub-county left Shaban Koya, Richard Melisa and a man only identified as Mohammed plus another unidentified person dead.

Mr Wanyama also identified those seriously injured as John Nabangi, a bus inspector, David Okiyi, Wilfred Egesa, Veronica Namisango, and Robert Ndayid all admitted at Mulago Hospital. “Those who escaped with minor injuries were treated or admitted to various health centres in Nakasongola and Luweero,” he told Saturday Monitor yesterday.

The police attributed the accident to speeding.
