Armed men kill mobile money agent in Kampala

KAMPALA- Armed people targeting mobile money agents have struck again shooting dead a mobile money agent and injuring her driver.

The robbery happened at Balintuma Road, Kayiwa Zone in Rubaga Division at about 10pm on Friday.

 Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire identified the deceased as Juliet Nabaasa, while the injured driver Mr Twaha Lukwago.

"Nabaasa was travelling from her mobile money shop in Nakulabye to her home. Armed thugs riding boda boda cycles shot her dead and her driver was shot in the leg. The suspects fled the scene without taking the money," Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Police recovered four cartridges suspected to have been discharged by the armed thugs.

Mr Owoyesigyire said Shs6 million was found at the scene.

Armed robberies especially against mobile money agents are on the rise.

At least 36 cases against mobile money agents have been reported around the country since January.

Last month, armed robbers killed Harriet Nalwadda, a mobile money shop owner and her worker Moreen Nakabuubi in Zzana, near Kampala.

On May 16, armed thugs who raided a mobile money shop in Church Zone Lungujja, shot dead Raphael Walugembe.

At least seven guns owned by security agencies have been recovered in operations in Kampala city.

Some of the suspects  were attached to security agencies.
