Arua treason case: Bobi Wine, co-accused return to court on Thursday

GULU. 33 suspects who were charged with treason for allegedly stoning one of President Museveni’s cars during the Arua Municipality by-election chaos will return to the Gulu magistrate court on Thursday.
The Kyadondo East legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi wine, Kassiano Wadri, Arua Municipality MP, and 31 other co-accused will appear for mention of their case.
They are expected to appear before the Grade One Magistrate Isaac Imram Kintu.

Their case was adjourned on December 3 2018 to January this year by presiding Magistrate Kintu after the state prosecutor Paul Weponde, in his submission, told court that the police had not completed the investigations into the charges.
Mr Henry Kilama, one of the lawyers representing the accused told Daily Monitor in an interview Wednesday that although his clients are expected in court, he is uncertain if all will turn up.
“I can’t tell if all of them will be in court for tomorrow’s case mention, I haven’t yet received calls from some of them,” Mr Kilama said.
Mr Kilama said he is hopeful that the case will be smoothly handled this time without delays.
In December last year, Mr Wadri while addressing journalists at Gulu High Court premises said him and the other co-accused will not return to court beyond February next year if police fail to complete investigations and present evidence for trial.
He said the charges against them are capital in nature and the law requires investigations to be completed within six months so that prima facie evidence is produced before court.
“We are counting the number of months we have reported here. Should we clock and hit the six months reporting here and the police continue to “dilly dally” that they are not yet through with investigations, we shall use the force required and provided within the law to abandon coming to court,” Mr Wadri charged.
Bobi wine, who was supposed to attend a British Parliamentary session debating the rule of law in Uganda early this week, cancelled his trip to attend today’s court session.
He was scheduled to attend debate on Tuesday in the House of Commons.
