Former administrator of the Uganda Telecom Mr Twebaze Bemanya has welcomed his successor, Ruth Sebatindira at the helm of the company and tasked her to build further on his achievements.
Ms Sebatindira, a former President of the Uganda Law Society was last week named new administrator of the national telecom company following a long standoff between government officials in the bid to replace Mr Bemanya.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the telecom’s headquarters in Kampala Monday afternoon, Mr Bemanya said Sebatindira’s “competence and experience, makes” him confident that she will build on the successes to make the UTL brand better.

“Today together with the team at URSB, we successfully handed over Uganda Telecom to Ruth, the new Administrator,” Mr Bemanya tweeted minutes after the handover.
“Her competence and experience, makes me confident that she will build on the successes to make UTL brand better. I wish her well,” he added.
Mr Bemanya has, however, challenged his successor to build on registered success, which includes the reduction of the cost of internet used by government entities by 77 percent from $300 (about Shs11m) per megabits to only $70 (about Shs256,000).
In the handover statement, the ex-administrator highlighted a number of milestones reached since he took over office.

“We reawakened UTL’s relationship with West Indian Ocean Cable Company where UTL is a 9.13 percent shareholder, entitled to big volumes of internet and dividends,” Mr Bemanya said.
Mr Bemanya also said that through engaging professional valuers, the asset market now stands at $84m, a 110 per increase from only $40m left behind by the former management.
He further boasted of having reduced the claims of creditors from $250m to $145m.
Ms Sebatindira said she was honoured to be trusted with the task and promised to execute her mandate with consultations.
