Boat accident victims laid to rest

The proprietors of the ill-fated boat that sank in Lake Victoria on Saturday were yesterday buried at Kyaliwajjala in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, as mourners paid tribute to the couple.
Michael Bisase, aka Templar, and his wife Sheila Bisase, are among the 32 people that perished when the boat they were travelling in capsized.
“Survivors tell us that Sheila and Michael died while trying to save their colleagues,” Ms Joyce Bisase, a relative, said.
Democratic Party spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande described Bisase as a hardworking, focused and determined person who stood for truth.
“He tried to live within the legacy of his late father- Bisase Snr, who stood for sincerity,” Mr Kakande told mourners.
In his tribute to Sheila, the Forum for Democratic Change deputy secretary general, Mr Harold Kaija, blamed government for the deaths.
“If government had enough service delivery for all, some of these things may not have occurred,” Mr Kaija said. The couple is survived by three children.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people yesterday gathered at Seseme Church of Uganda in Kisoro District to pay their last respects to Sheila Mbonimpa Gashishiri, 36, another victim.
Clerical call
The Rev Philip Muhire, who presided over the funeral service, urged Christians to live a righteous life because they do not know what the future holds.
Mr Mbonimpa Gashishiri, the deceased’s uncle, said the late always supported the family whenever she was approached.
The NRM party secretary general, Ms Kasule Lumumba, who delivered a condolence of Shs2m from government, said the incident was a great loss.
Mbonimpa was buried in Nshohora Village, Nyarusiza Sub-county in Kisoro.
Another victim, Brian Ndoori, was also buried in the same village after a funeral service at Kabindi Church of Uganda.
The LC5 chairperson, Mr Abel Bizimana, said the duo’s death was a big blow to the district and appealed to Ugandans to pray for the bereaved families.
