Bobi Wine concert: Police fire tear gas to disperse revellers from One Love Beach

Police have fired tear gas and sprayed pink water to disperse revellers who had camped at One Love Beach, Busabaala ahead of Bobi Wine's Boxing Day concert.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Police and soldiers were deployed at the beach. They cordoned the concert venue and arrested Bobi Wine's employees.

Nevertheless Bobi Wine's fans flocked the venue only to be sent off by the security forces.
The Uganda Police Force spokesperson Emilian Kayima in an earlier interview had said that the musician and legislator also known as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu will not hold his Boxing Day concert as he had earlier planned.

“We shall be at Busabala beach to disperse revellers because we shall be protecting them. As far as I’m concerned, this concert wasn’t cleared because the first things weren’t done,” Kayima said.

He argued that Bobi Wine did not write to Police seeking permission and security for his concert that was supposed to happen today.

“As far as I’m aware, I don’t think the concert will happen unless it was cleared this morning. If Bobi Wine hasn’t written to Police about his concert, that’s not my issue because if he writes, we shall police his concert,” Kayima said during an interview.

This comes just a few days after Parliament passed a directive that blocking Bobi Wine's music shows is unconstitutional and should be stopped.

"It is disrespecting the parliamentary directive. It is for every body to see that they are acting with impunity," Bobi Wine said.
He defended himself saying that all the necessary paper work was delivered to Police before the concert, adding that the police officer in charge of the blocking could not even look at him as he showed him the documents.
