The army has replaced the Chief of Staff Brig Leopold Kyanda and sent him to India for further training.

Brig Kyanda was replaced by an officer of the same rank, Brig Geoffrey Katsigazi who will be in the position as a caretaker.

It is still unclear why Kyanda was replaced but the army spokesperson Paddy Ankunda told NTV by telephone that it was a normal development.

Brigadier Kyanda formerly commanded the elite Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB), currently Special Forces Command (SFC) and commanded by President Museveni's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Kyanda was elevated to lead the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence before he was posted as Uganda's Military attaché to the United States.
