Bus kills two boda passengers on Mbale-Tirinyi highway

Two people died and two others were critically injured yesterday in an accident involving a bus and a boda boda in Doko Trading Centre, Bukasakya Sub-county in Mbale District on the Mbale-Tirinyi highway.

Two people died and two others were critically injured yesterday in an accident involving a bus and a boda boda in Doko Trading Centre, Bukasakya Sub-county in Mbale District on the Mbale-Tirinyi highway.

Ms Junic Nambozo, an eyewitness, said a speeding Kakise bus from Kampala to Soroti knocked a boda boda rider on a motorcycle which was carrying the victims.

Police and residents said the accident was caused by recklessness of the bus driver.

The acting Elgon region Police spokesperson, Mr Robert Tukei, confirmed the accident.
He said the boda boda rider and a six-year-old child died on the spot while two others were taken to Mbale hospital in critical condition.

The bodies were taken to Mbale Municipal Council mortuary.

The passengers in the Kakise bus were still stranded at Mbale Central Police Station by midday yesterday.
Last Tuesday, 20 people died in a road accident after a bus they were travelling in overturned several times on the Kapchorwa-Mbale road in Kapchorwa District.
The accident occurred at Towei Hill in Kapsimdua Sub-county, a black spot on the highway, after the bus driver lost control.
The bus belonging to Kiryandongo Technical Institute was carrying workers of the National Co-operative Business League of the United States of America based in Masindi and Kiryandongo districts.
