Bwana Arinaitwe, partner in court over violence

Kampala. The Mwanga II Family and Children’s Court has ordered Mr Gilbert Bwana Arinaitwe and his estranged partner to plan together in order to take good care of their two children.
Mr Arinaitwe shot to the limelight in April 2011 when he brutally arrested former Forum for Democratic Change president, Dr Kizza Besigye, during the walk-to-work demonstration at Mulago hospital roundabout.
Earlier, Court had ordered Mr Arinaitwe to give Shs3.1m to Ms Beatrice Florence Nagawa, the mother of his two children, every month for rent, transport, school fees and requirements, a decision he contested, saying it was unreasonably granted since he earns less.
Ms Nagawa had told court that Mr Arinaitwe on several occasions denied paternity of the children before his relatives and friends and was always violent and abusive towards her.
Violent man
According to the court documents, Ms Nagawa also said her husband is very violent, short-tempered, reckless, and irresponsible and that his nature terrifies his children, who fear and dread his presence.
She further stated that Arinaitwe has no fixed place of abode but is temporarily accommodated by friends and relatives.
“Ms Nagawa stated that she earns about Shs200,000 and Arinaitwe also indicated that he earns Shs532,160. Giving by their honest assertions, it would therefore be unreasonable to budget for invisible Shs3.1m to Shs3.5m per month,” Senior Principal Magistrate Emmy Geoffrey Sayekwo ruled.
The magistrate also ruled that the custody of the children is not supposed to be paid by financially a strong party, considering the age of the said children, the mother is the fit and proper person to maintain the children.
However, the magistrate also noted that this order can be commonly reviewed after two years since the children are growing up and also due to the changing circumstances of the parties and the children.
