Luweero. Police have said a Kampala lawyer, who is implicated in the murder of his worker, has gone into hiding to evade arrest.
Police said they visited three known residences and the workplace of Mr Richard Kiboneka, who is wanted in connection with the murder of James Kalemera.
Kalemera was killed by men allegedly hired by the suspect at the latter’s farm in Kayonza Village, Butuntumula Sub-county in Luweero District on November 4.
A charge of murder has been preferred against Mr Kiboneka at Luweero Central Police Station.
“The police teams are still tracking the suspects, including Mr Kiboneka wanted in connection with a murder case. Police is through with the investigation process but the suspects are yet to be arrested,” Mr Paul Kangave, the Savana Region police spokesperson, told Daily Monitor yesterday.
The hired men reportedly tortured Kalemera to extract a confession from him on accusations that he had stolen and sold Mr Kiboneka’s cattle.
The killing has since sparked outrage among residents and local leaders.
“We were very shocked to find out that the torture was executed in the presence of a man we had all along trusted as a custodian of law. We want justice to prevail. It was a terrifying incident for the family who watched helplessly as their own went through the pain before breathing his last,” Mr Salim Zimula, the Butuntumula LC3 councillor, said.
