Police on Monday arrested a former USAFI market vendor for allegedly causing public disturbance at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) offices in Kampala.
Ms Annet Nassazi had camped at the Authority’s offices demanding compensation for her stalls which were allegedly vandalised by the city law enforcement officers.
Before her arrest on the orders of Mr Kituma Rusoke, the Authority’s enforcement chief, Ms Nassazi told journalists that her stalls were demolished and all her merchandise confiscated by KCCA law enforcement team in July 2016.
“I decided to come here (KCCA offices) and demand for my compensation upon hearing that the executive director (Ms Jennifer Musisi) was leaving KCCA,” she said.
Ms Nassazi told journalists that she wants Shs6.5 million, inclusive of damages as compensation for the two stalls that were demolished.
By press time, she was still detained at Kampala Central Police Station.
When asked why Ms Nassazi had been arrested, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire said she was arrested following a complaint from KCCA management who accuse her of public disturbance.
“We have not yet spoken to her because she has not opened up. We are still waiting for her to calm down and we get her statement from her,” he said.
