A 45-year-old woman dropped dead on Wednesday morning under unclear circumstances shortly after attending prayers at St. James Church in Jinja town.

Kiira region police spokesperson, Ms Diana Nandawula identified the deceased as Flavia Kalikwani, a resident of Buwenda village Mafubira Sub-County in Jinja District.

Some members of the congregation said they had seen her several times in church for the morning prayers.

“She has been coming to church every morning. After crossing the road, she fell and hit her neck on the bench outside the kiosk where she wanted to sit. I think she broke her neck or something,” said one of the witnesses who asked not to be named in this story.

Another man said; “the lady could have been suffering from epilepsy because she was foaming in the mouth.”

Police picked the body and took it to Jinja Hospital mortuary for postmortem as they traced for relatives to collect the body for burial.

According to police, Kalikwani was drunk by the time of the incident.

Ms Nandawula told this reporter hours after the incident that a postmortem report showed that Kalikwani died of abstraction of airways by the tongue as a result of her neck hitting the bench.
