The project
The Kyamate small-scale irrigation project is located in Kyamate Ward, Eastern Division and is targeting farmers under the Church of South Ankole Diocese Kyamate.
Ankole South Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe asked the beneficiaries of the project to work hard to ensure food sustainability in the area.
Bishop Ahimbisisbwe, who is also a farmer in the area, urged people to make use of the project.
The project follows a presidential directive to have at least one or two irrigation schemes in every district across the country for commercial farming.

The Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner, Mr George Bakunda, appealed to the beneficiaries to use the project as it is expected such that it can entice government to spread out similar projects to other dry corridors.
The Ntungamo District chairperson, Mr Dennis Singahache, hailed government for fulfilling the promise of extending water for irrigation to the area.
Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, one of those who lobbied for the project, asked the public to always embrace government programmes.
