The High Court in Kampala on Wednesday issued a temporary injunction against junior Information and Communications Technology (ICT) minister Idah Nantaba from media utterances that are targeted at her political rival, Mr Moses Kalisa Karangwa.
The temporary injunction, issued by the assistant registrar of the High Court, Ms Joy Kabagye, will be in place until the main application filed by Mr Karangwa against the minister is heard and determined.
“It’s hereby ordered that an order of interim injunction issued against the respondent (minister Nantaba) and her agents, restraining her from making/uttering or publishing defamatory or false against the applicant (Mr Kalisa), in any way including in media in public meetings and gatherings, radios and television or in any communicative manner until disposal of the main application for a temporary injunction,” reads in part the court order.
Mr Karangwa, a businessman and also the Kayunga District National Resistance Movement chairperson accuses minister Nantaba, who doubles as the district Woman MP, of using media appearances to defame him and yet he has a name to protect.
Mr Karangwa claims minister Nantaba while appearing on Radio Simba and Nation Television on October 6 and October 11 respectively, allegedly portrayed him as a killer, land grabber, a thief, a criminal, a person who is above the law, a fugitive and a person not fit to live in society.
Given the existence of the court order, minister Nantaba, who had appeared on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze show yesterday, had to be stopped prematurely from the show.
