Mr Njoki insisted that despite a lot of benefits that comes with the position he had been offered and given the fact that he would contribute much to the promotion of human rights in the country, the support from Opposition means a lot to him and the entire the country.
Opposition candidate for Busia District LCV by-elections, Deo Hasubi Njoki has declined the offer to serve on the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).
Addressing journalists at Democratic Party (DP) weekly press conference in Kampala Tuesday, Mr Njoki said he would have loved to serve on the human rights commission since it’s an independent organ but the will of Opposition mattered more.
"I thank the appointing authority for considering me to serve on the UHRC but considering the time when I received the appointment letter on November 8, just a day after closure of nominations in Busia, I cannot make any change," Mr Njoki said.
Mr Njoki further noted that the response he has received from electorates has given him more hope and courage.

“I now know that there are many people who have hope in me and would feel disappointed if I took up the offer. The general public and the people of Busia should desist from fake reports that I have abandoned the race,” he said.
Mr Njoki reiterated that despite a lot of benefits that come with the UHRC job and given the fact that he would contribute much to the promotion of human rights in the country, the support from Opposition meant a lot to him and the entire the country.
"If I take up the offer, there would be no opportunity for any other candidate to be nominated. I would be selfish. I have therefore, chosen to serve the people of Busia and entire country,” he added.
DP president general, Mr Norbert Mao lauded Mr Njoki for overcoming the temptations and remaining strong.
