Decomposing body of kidnapped school boy recovered

LYANTONDE - Residents of Lyakajula village in Lyantonde District are in grief following the recovery of a decomposing body of a 12 -year -old boy who was kidnapped last month.
Julius Amutuhaire, was a Primary Six pupil at Kyakahangire Foundation Primary School in Lyakajula Sub-county in Lyantonde District.
He was kidnapped on March 29 while returning home from school.
The kidnappers have been calling the boy’s parents demanding a cash ransom.
On Friday, police sent Shs500, 000 to the prime suspect who was traced to the mobile money shop, where he withdrew the money on Saturday.
Mr David Tukamanyire, the boy’s father, wondered why the kidnappers, using strange telephone numbers, continued to demand a ransom yet they had killed his son.
“It is only God who can punish those heartless people,” he said.
Earlier, the kidnappers had asked for Shs30 million to release the boy or Shs10 million to release his body.
However, the family failed to raise the amount.
Southern region police spokesperson, Mr Lameck Kigozi said the prime suspect led police to Kyemamba trading centre, where the body was dumped.
Mr Kigozi said police recovered the remains, a pencil and a school uniform.
He said they suspect that the kidnappers used the school uniform shirt to strangle the victim.
Mr Kigozi, said given the state of the body, the boy was killed a few days after being kidnapped.
“The body was in a decomposing state indicating that the victim was killed just a few days after the kidnap,” he said.
He said that police have arrested seven people including the head teacher of Kyakahangire Primary School. It is alleged that the kidnappers connived with him.
Other suspects who have been detained include a hair dresser who is said to have received the first phone call from the kidnappers demanding a ransom.
In the last couple of years, police have recorded several kidnapping cases around the country, although some are fake.
Some cases in Masaka sub-region
On November 20, 2018, a two-year-old girl, Favour Mulungi Wanyana, was kidnapped from her parents’ home in Lwamaggwa Trading Centre, Rakai District and later, her parents, Mr Mike Ssewanyana and Ms Sylvia Nabukenya, were forced to pay Shs4.5 million before she was dropped in Kalisizo town about 50 kilometre away.
Rosemary Nakisekka, a 17-year-old girl from Kigo Village in Kalungu District was kidnapped in May last year and driven to Kampala by unknown men who also demanded Shs5 million from her father, Mr Fred Kasagga.
Nakisekka was, however, killed after her parents failed to raise the money
