Don’t block Bobi - MPs

Kampala. Legislators across the political divide have asked government not to block Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi from performing at music concerts.

During the debate of the statement by Internal Affairs minister, Gen Jeje Odongo yesterday, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa said Mr Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has economic rights that police cannot just erase. “The guidelines being issued by the police are illegal; it is the minister who is supposed to issue the guidelines,” Mr Basalirwa said.
Gen Odongo claimed police blocked Mr Kyagulanyi because the organisers had not slotted him on the list perform and that Mr Kyagulanyi led a procession, disrupting traffic.

Mr Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central, Ind.) said as guardians of the law, they should respect rights of all. Mr James Waluswaka (Bunyole West, NRM) said the police should allow him to enjoy his economic rights because blocking him only wins him the public’s sympathy. Other MPs who spoke in support of Kyagulanyi are Sam Bitangaro (Bufumbira South, NRM), David Abala (Ngora County, NRM) and Robert Kasule Sebunya (Nansana Municipality, NRM).
