Dr Gwaluka’s suspected killers arrested, gun recovered

Security forces have arrested three men who allegedly shot dead Dr Ibra Gwaluka, the treasurer of Uganda Medical Association in Busoga Region, near his home in Iganga Town on Friday night.

Dr Gwaluka was the in-charge of Kigandaalo Health Centre IV in Mayuge District at the time of his death.
A police source said the suspects were arrested in Busia and Iganga districts, and the suspected killer gun recovered.
Sources close to investigations told Daily Monitor last evening that the three suspects were arrested on Monday and the searches were conducted yesterday.

The killer gun was also recovered in the home of one of the suspects in Busia District.
The suspects are in custody in Iganga District and police authorities in Kampala were informed immediately.

Mr Ssekate said he needed to get in touch with the detectives on ground.
Details of how the suspects were tracked down and arrested are still confidential since investigations are in their preliminary stage.

However, detectives are to first subject the recovered firearm to ballistic test to establish whether the cartridges found at the scene were discharged from it.
The shooting of Dr Gwaluka had raised fear among the public of repeat of the gruesome incidents in which police officers and Muslim clerics were killed by armed people in Busoga region.
