EC in final touches ahead of Hoima woman MP election

The Electoral Commission is in final touches, preparing for the Hoima woman MP by-elections that will be held tomorrow.
According to the EC spokesperson, Mr Jotham Taremwa, the EC has already delivered polling materials to its Hoima office, ready to dispatch them to the different polling stations at 4am on Thursday.
“As you notice all our materials are ready. The polling kit ready for dispatch to 266 polling stations in Hoima District,” Taremwa has told the Daily Monitor at the EC’s Hoima office.
By press time, EC’s Parish and sub county supervisors were having a final briefing from senior EC officials led by the head of field operations department Mr Richard Baabo Kamugisha.
This reporter visited the EC’s office in Hoima and saw the district returning officer, Mr Douglas Matsiko, police and agents of the two candidates inspecting the polling materials that were delivered by an Electoral commission truck.
“These materials were packed from the EC headquarters. They have serial numbers on each ballot box. We are verifying each box to ensure that it is well sealed and the right materials are inside,” Matsiko said.
He said his office had received support staff from the EC headquarters and in the neighbouring districts.
“We want to have good coordination and supervision in the entire exercise until we return the results,” he said.
Campaigns ended on Tuesday with candidates addressing their last campaign rallies. Polling will be on Thursday as voters elect their Hoima woman Member of Parliament. The seat fell vacant early this year after the area MP Ms Tophas Kaahwa Byagira stepped aside and opted to represent the newly created Kikuube District which was curved out of Hoima District.
