Flights delayed as Ethiopian Airlines plane overshoots Entebbe Airport runway during landing

Flights have been delayed at Entebbe International Airport after an Ethiopian airlines plane overshot the runway leaving several passengers stranded.
The flight number ET 338, a Boeing 737-800 with 139 passengers on board, is said to have overshot the runway on landing at about 12.41am on Thursday.
The Airlines said the flight was on a regular scheduled service from Addis Ababa to Entebbe, Uganda when the incident happened.
“Passengers and crew aboard were safely deplaned and were taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process. There is no damage to the aircraft and it is being towed to the ramp,” reads a statement from the Airlines.
An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa.

“We apologise to our esteemed valued customers, who were on board the flight for the inconvenience. The cause of the incident is under investigation,” the statement reads further.
However, Mr Vianney Luggya, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) manager public affairs said the incident has mainly affected inbound international flights.
"Concerted efforts in liaison with Ethiopian Airline and other stakeholders are ongoing to ensure removal of the aircraft from the runway end, and resumption of normal flight operations. The public will be updated on developments in the course of the day," Mr Luggya said in a statement.
