The body of a Catholic priest Rev Fr Peter Kasooli Bwayo, which was exhumed eight months ago, has been reburied in Bwihoghe village, Bulambuli town council in Bulambuli District.
The remains of Fr Bwayo have been under preservation in a refrigerator at the Mbale Municipal Mortuary since March 23, 2018 when the body was exhumed.

The order to have the body exhumed was issued by Mbale Grade One magistrate, Mr Daniel Epobu following an application by the deceased’s elder brother, Mr Clement Byawo to ascertain the cause of his death and claims of treasure in the grave.
Rev Fr Mathew Bwayo, the deceased’s next of kin, who presided over the funeral service at the family cemetery on Tuesday, said they were happy that they had finally reburied their brother after a long wait.
The funeral was only attended by the deceased’s relatives and a few community members.

“We are happy that our brother has been reburied. We are also satisfied with the findings because we have nothing else we can do,” he said.
According to Rev Bwayo, the report they received from the Government Analytical Laboratory indicated that they had not found the cause of his death.

Fr Peter Kasooli Bwayo died in the United States in June 2014, where he had lived, first as a student and later missionary since 1994, and had been granted American citizenship by the time he died.
Fr Phillip M Musee, a friend to the deceased described the late as God fearing and honest man, who did not deserve such kind of death.
“He was a good friend of mine who deserved better, and not such mysterious death,” he said.
He further urged family members to remain united and forgive whoever might have wronged them.

Mr Clement Bwayo, however, said the government should seek support from international investigators to establish the cause of their brother’s death.
“I appeal to the government not to stop at this but continue demanding for answers from U.S government about the sudden death of our brother. All we want is justice,” he said.
Mr Bwayo also appealed to police to provide security to the grave, saying criminals may dig it up and steal the body for selfish reasons.
