What you need to know:

  • Mr Moses Tugume replaces Mr Yokas Bihande, the husband of former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza, as deputy mobliser for western region.
  • Long after the deadline he set for the exercise, sources say, some party leaders had not declared their allegiance or were openly working with Gen Muntu on his new project, prompting the changes of this week.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) this week reshuffled its National Executive Committee (NEC), replacing pro-Muntu leaders. The move was adopted on Friday during a special NEC sitting at the party’s headquarters in Najjanakumbi, Kampala.
The move is the boldest thus far regarding FDC’s management of the divorce with its former president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu. Gen Muntu in September announced that he had left FDC and declared that he would unveil a new party before Christmas.

He is working on forming the new party together with a number of individuals who have been in FDC for years. For this reason, FDC secretary general Nandala Mafabi demanded that each member declares in writing where they fall, whether they were to remain in FDC or move with Gen Muntu.

Long after the deadline he set for the exercise, sources say, some party leaders had not declared their allegiance or were openly working with Gen Muntu on his new project, prompting the changes of this week.
In the new lineup, Ms Alice Alaso, the founding secretary general of FDC, who has been serving as deputy party president for eastern region, was replaced by former Busia District MP Kevinah Taaka. Ms Alaso is actively working to set up the new party with Gen Muntu.
Jinja Municipality West MP Paul Mwiru, who has been serving as deputy spokesperson, was replaced by Mr John Kikonyogo, while Mr Patrick Baguma was replaced as deputy president for western region by Busongora North MP William Nzoughu.

In other changes, Mr Rajaab Kaaya was replaced as vice chairman for central region by Mr Mukalazi Kibuuka, while Kawempe South MP Munyagwa Mubarak replaces Mr Alex Gitta as deputy mobiliser for central region.
Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri was dropped as deputy mobiliser for northern reign, which now goes to Obongi County MP Hassan Kaps Fungaroo.
Other pro-Muntu supporters who were dropped are Iddi Ouma, who was the youth leader and has been replaced by Walid Mulindwa Lubega.
Mr Moses Tugume replaces Mr Yokas Bihande, the husband of former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza, as deputy mobliser for western region.
