JINJA- Two workers were on Monday injured after fire gutted Nile Agro Limited in Walukuba East village, Jinja District.

The fire reportedly started at about 4:05pm when a boiler at the refinery section burst.

Workers were evacuated while others remained trapped inside the factory as plumes of black smoke billowed overhead.

By about 4:41pm, when the first police fire brigade truck arrived at the factory, the oils and boilers sections had been significantly burnt.

Jinja Resident District Commissioner, Mr Eric Sakwa, said the company is known for manufacturing soap and oils which are highly inflammable.

"Factory owners should have fire-fighting equipment on site because we had to call fire trucks from Iganga, Kakira and Nile Ply, who responded," Mr Sakwa said.

The Officer-in-Charge of Fire Brigade, ASP Collin Agaba, said they will release a detailed report about the fire after investigations are complete.

The injured were rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

In 2017, fire gutted the factory.
