A fierce fire last evening ravaged Kiganda zone in Kisenyi, downtown Kampala, burning down several houses and property worth millions of shillings.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from Chot's lodge at about 6 pm and spread to other houses, destroying property such as mattresses, fridges, television sets among other items.

It also destroyed almost all the workshops and cars that were parked nearby.

Fire brigade police could hardly get to the scene due to poor and narrow roads, leaving the affected residents with no choice but to put out the fire in the possible ways they could.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, some residents attributed the cause of the fire to the rampant illegal power connections in the area.

The affected residents blamed the fire brigade for arriving late.
