Five arrested for stealing Bumbobi-Lwakhakha road construction materials

NAMISINDWA: Police in Namisindwa District in eastern Uganda are holding five people including, a prominent businessman in Mbale town for allegedly stealing Bumbobi-Lwakhakha road construction materials.
The Police Spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, confirmed the arrest and said they were being held on a range of offences including theft among others.

He identified two of the suspects as Sam Simiyu, a businessman and Gerald Nambale, all residents of Namisindwa District.
“Investigation is ongoing to get more suspects still at large because it appears that more people were involved. We expect to arrest more after the interrogation,” said Mr Enanga.
The 44.5km road is a Shs 140.7 billion project funded by the African Development Bank (ADB). It’s being constructed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation limited.
Police said four people were arrested in Namisindwa District and one person in Mbale town for stealing the road construction materials.
Mr Enanga added that the suspects’ file has been sent to Resident State Attorney for perusal.

He said on the night of May 6 this year, the suspects and others still at large stole and ferried several construction materials from the construction site.
“We conducted a search and recovered several stolen items including a generator valued at about Shs18 million,” he said.
The Elgon Regional Police Commander, Mr Abraham Betongyeza said they also impounded a vehicle which was found carrying other the stolen materials.
