Five people die in Masaka-Mbarara road accident

MASAKA- At least five people have died in a motor accident at Nkoni Village  on Mbarara-Masaka road.

The accident that involved a bus Reg. No. Number UAU 523H belonging to Global Bus Company and a Toyota Noah Registration Number   UAN 429H occurred at 3pm.

It left three other people injured.

According to Mr Paul Kangave, the Southern Regional Police spokesperson, the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Noah made a U-turn.

In the process, an on-coming bus that was travelling from Kampala, knocked it.

All the five people who died on spot were travelling in the Toyota Noah. The injured people were travelling in the bus.

 This brings the number of people who have perished in motor accidents on the same highway   since Sunday, to 15.

Another accident occurred on Monday at Kaddugala Village, about 12 kilometres from Masaka Town. It claimed a UPDF Captain Aaron Abaho Kabayizi and his sister in law Yayeri Asasira.

Mbarara –Masaka-Kampala has remained one of the accident-prone highways in the country, registering between 200 and 300 fatalities annually.

At the height of accidents on the highway in 2015  which claimed the lives of former  Miss Tourism finalists Norah Atim and Barbara Nakiwolo, and Resty Namawejje, an employee of NTV-Uganda, members of Parliament  demanded for a probe into the road designs, procurement and construction of the  highway.
