Pioneer Bishop of Lango dead

Bishop Emeritus of Lango Diocese Rev Melchizedek Otim, has passed on.

Bishop Emeritus Otim, 85, who was the first bishop of Lango Diocese passed on at about 3am on Wednesday morning from Mulago Heart Institute.

Ms Anne Alum Ogwal, the deceased’s daughter confirmed the death saying he had been battling a long illness.

The provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev Canon William Ongeng said they are set to meet with the family in the evening to conclude burial arrangements.

“It’s true he is dead, however we are yet to sit with the family to finalize burial arrangements since today is also a big day," Rev Canon Ongeng said.

"We however plan to meet this evening and will let the public know the final burial arrangements," he added.

Born in 1934, Reverend Otim was appointed the pioneer Bishop of Lango Diocese in 1976 by the late Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Janan Luwum. He served as the Bishop of Lango Diocese until 2000 when he retired.
