Four children who were part of a group that travelled from Kampala to Jinja, for a friendly football game on Sunday, have drowned in River Nile.

They drowned in River Nile near Bujagali Falls in Buwenda Village, Mafubira Sub-county, Jinja District.

According to some residents, the four children who are yet to be identified, decided to swim before the game between their colleagues in Buwenda.

Mr Hawali Kamya, the Buwenda Central Local Council 1 chairman, expressed shock saying he has never experienced such an incident in the area.

However, some residents say, the point where the children drowned is a black spot since bottom of the river at the point is slippery.

The four bodies have been retrieved and taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for an autopsy.

Efforts to get a comment from Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, Ms Diana Nandaula, were futile as since her known telephone number was switched off.
